ST3 Half day release Aug 2009 onwards (Click to download) *amended September 2009

Most weeks we will start with a Hot Topic presentation. Each GPST will take a turn to present a topic. You can find out what you are timetabled to present and when on the above programme. If you are away when you are due to present, please swap with a colleague. Each presentation should last about 10 minutes. This is followed by a group discussion. You can use any media you wish. We collate the presentations to upload to our website, so you and your colleagues can refer to them at your convenience. If you wish to present a different topic to the one allocated, then please discuss this with Pete or Colette. We welcome any ideas.

The GPST presenting the Hot Topic is also responsible for bringing milk and biscuits. Please feel free to bring homemade snacks instead!

The programme for the main topic for each half-day release is above. We use small group work regularly, and we often expect you to do preparatory work for the half-day release. This helps you to get more out of each session, so you’ll have less cramming to do at the end of the year! We will advise you of any preparatory work a week in advance.

We usually try and end by discussing difficult cases. Please think about one case each week that you could talk about if asked. These will usually be patient encounters that troubled you in some way.

In GP ST2 the half-day release will run from 10am to 1pm at the Postgraduate Centre at Princess of Wales.

In GP ST3 the half-day release will run from 2pm to 5pm at the Postgraduate Centre at Princess of Wales.

During the autumn term of 2009 there will be some noise disturbance due to the extension at the Postgraduate Centre. For this reason the HDR will be held at St Mary’s Catholic Church Hall, Ewenny Road, Bridgend.
