Kenfig Hill, once described as a mining valley on the flat, now feeds the heavy and manufacturing industries of the locality with manpower. The three male partners and one female partner work from a spacious, purpose-built surgery opened in 1987.

The partners believe in, and attempt to practise, whole-person, patient-orientated, consultative family medicine. The Primary Health Care team functions well through frequent informal and formal contact and relationships are good between the Practice and the local Hospital Trust professionals.

The surgery is fully computerised. There is open-access pathology and radiology, and opportunities for broad contraceptive experience in the local Family Planning Clinic. Half-day release is, of course, mandatory.

An ante-natal clinic is held weekly with district midwife support, and there are clinics for coronary heart disease and diabetes. Two of the partners are on the Child Surveillance List, and minor surgery is carried out.

The registrar has his or her own room, partners are supportive and accommodation can usually be arranged, if required.
